Artist statement
Curiosity is my starting point. The medium of photography has attracted me since childhood, innocent and playful at first, until I discovered that it is where my passion lies. My visual language has since developed from my emotions and personal vision.
I am an engaged, documentary photographer whose work is connected to societal themes; identity, the body, representation, and recognition. The work continuously seeks to make the invisible visible. I use a staged and aesthetic style to capture the essence, impact, the story, and what often remains unseen. Collaboration involves sharing a vulnerable part of yourself, it is intimate and personal.
My work emerges from my own experiences, feelings, and perceptions, which I explore through visual imagery. I find it important to create work together with others, where the subject, the photographer, and the viewer become one. To achieve this, I first ask myself critical questions in order to understand my position as a maker. I return my work to society to encourage reflection, to set something in motion, and to open up dialogue.
In my practice, I strive to focus on a single point of departure while presenting multiple perspectives, with the aim of raising awareness.
